Back to Overview

Swakopmund is a small urban setting in Namibia comprising people from all over Namibia.

This is a new project for MCP. The starting point will be a small art school for the children of the Democratic Resettlement Community (DRC) a township about 5 km outside Swakopmund, which currently has no schools and no electricity, having only shared water and toilet facilities.

“Colour is more important than food.” This was Ronald Kharuxab’s statement when we first met him in 2010. He explained that if children do not learn to express themselves positively they will do so later in a way that can ruin their lives. We are preparing this new project in cooperation with Ronald in the form of an art school in the township where he lives. The local community centre has offered their facilities for free and Ronald will run the art classes free of charge. To begin fundraising, we are planning to run exhibitions of his art work. Ronald suggested that the proceeds go towards covering the cost of materials.
